Hi all,

I birded the Eastern Shore today starting at Choptank where Jim Green, Ron
Gutberlet and I found a first cycle GLAUCOUS GULL sitting in Hunting Creek
in Dorchester County waters, the bird then flew into Caroline, was flushed
by an eagle into Talbot waters, and ultimately settled back in Caroline at
the marina. We split up from there, my next stop was Hurlock, where a
single ROSS'S GOOSE was seen flying out to feed among the many SNOW GEESE.
I then headed to Salisbury Landfill where there was an impressive
concentration of gulls, the most exciting find was an apparent second cycle
NELSON'S GULL (Gluacous x Herring gull hybrid), no sign of any of the
white-winged gulls that have been there recently, though the conditions
were far from ideal for an extended search and I imagine they are still in
the area. I continued on to Ocean City, at Hooper's Restaurant there was
an ORANGE-CROWED WARBLER in the scrubby Bayberry thicket northwest of the
parking lot, the inlet was productive with two continuing HARLEQUIN DUCKs
(male and female), five continuing COMMON EIDERS, a large flight of
RED-THROATED LOONs that started at about 350pm, and a single northbound
DOVEKIE.

Good birding!
