Wow! Never have I seen so many Bald Eagles from one spot in MD at same time
as Bob Cantilli, Tim Bender and I did today on Transquaking River where its
crossed by Decoursey Bridge Rd. At least 50 birds (maybe more). Some
perched in trees, many sitting directly on mud bars, many flying. At one
point, we watched, in fascinated horror, as a Green-winged Teal got caught
out in mid channel and was harassed from air by as many 9 immature Bald
Eagles for about 20-25 minutes. Miraculously, the teal eventually made it
to safety underneath a duck blind.

Possibly, eagles were drawn in by some kind of fish run. There were quite a
few fish jumping in the water above and below the bridge. Water was
extremely turbid but one fish struggling at surface appeared to be either a
Gizzard Shad or Alewife.
