Hi, all -

I hadn't heard anything about these for awhile, but I missed them on both ends of a day on the Eastern Shore last week, so I decided to try. I did know the ones in Gettysburg were still there yesterday so that seemed hopeful. I, of course, got there too early so I amused myself counting TVs. About 5:30 a fox with a furless tail showed up - he proceeded to catch three decently sized furry things so the field had obviously not been overhunted. At 6:00 a harrier passed over the ridge.

Finally at 6:13 I heard the first growl and then a second - I found the owl perched on a sturdy stalk/small sapling. It then flew over the field hanging mostly along the ridge. While I was watching it, a second owl growled behind me at 6:18 - that one was flying while sounding off. After that there was no more talking. I watched the two of them until 6:30 when I couldn't see them anymore. Neither of them was sloppy enough to break horizon and give me a chance.

I parked on a wide area of shoulder 0.4 mile up from the intersection with Baumgardner Rd.

Cheers,
