Hi all,

We expected a bit more action today at WRP since the weather was so nice, but there had obviously been a large exodus of sparrows and an equally large influx of robins without much else new. The good news is that at least 5 FOX SPARROWS still linger in the area of the bluebird boxes (behind the carousel). Only one pair of Bluebirds in evidence at the nestboxes, last week two pairs were jostling for the territory, with much singing on the part of the two males and inspection of the 6 boxes by the females. Today another pair flew over calling but didn't linger. A Winter Wren was seen and the male Wood Duck was swimming in close company with a male Ring-necked Duck on Pine Lake (a rather odd couple indeed). Otherwise the news was how few common sparrows linger (except Juncos) and how many Robins were around on the grass, and in the woods flipping dead leaves. Two unwelcome Brown-headed Cowbirds puttered around with the many Starlings. However a nice day to be out, as they say, a bad day birding is better than a good day doing anything else!
