Yesterday afternoon, around 4:30, our carpool was headed south on Rt. 4 approaching stopped traffic at the light at Broomes Island Road. I noticed a large raptor soaring overhead, only about 75-100 feet up, and looked up through the windshield (I wasn't driving) to see a dark eagle. Assuming it was a Bald Eagle, I started noticing features that didn't fit. Solid dark underwing with lighter inner webbing on the primaries and secondaries, pale golden head and a dark tail with a darker terminal band. The bird circled over to the passenger side where I got a better look at it before it headed north and we started rolling again. I was headed back into Prince Frederick from the park and ride shortly afterward but was unable to relocate it. Not sure if it was getting ready to settle down for the night or if it just continued to circle off to the north/northwest but a pretty amazing way to end the commute!
