A heads-up for those of you who visit the dam area, and
especially if you're interested in the nesting ravens.
Apparently WSSC plans to widen the dam, with construction to
start imminently (within a few weeks) -- on the PG side the
wall will be 8 feet high (!) at the ball field along the
tree line. Apparently this has been mandated by the state
to ensure the dam holds in a once-in-10,000-year
catastrophic weather event. To me this seems like overkill,
to put it mildly. There will be a community meeting planned
(no details yet) -- I can pass the info on to those
interested. I have to assume the construction will
negatively impact the ravens (and the Cliff Swallows that
like to nest there as well). Work will begin on the PG
side, then move to the HoCo side, with completion sometime
in 2014...
