Hi everyone, 



We have organized another trip to Poplar Island for Wednesday March 28 th . The meeting place is the same as before -- at the state dock at Tilghman Island. The Maryland Department of Environment’s boat will leave this dock promptly at 9.00 a.m. to Poplar Island. You should plan to arrive at the dock at no later than 8.45 a.m. and should allow about 1 1/2 hours from the Washington Beltway to the dock, allowing for rush-hour traffic and possible Bay Bridge tie-ups. (If you arrive early, there is often good birding at Blackwalnut Point at the southern end of the island.) 



Directions: From 495, take Rt. 50 east, cross the Bay Bridge and continue on 50 towards Easton. Just before reaching Easton, turn right onto Rt. 322 (signed for St. Michael’s). After a couple of miles, turn right onto Rt. 33 (signed for Tilghman) and continue through St. Michael’s to Tilghman Island. The Poplar Island boat dock has changed since my last trip in October. The new directions are as follows: After crossing the bridge onto Tilghman Island you take the first left which is Chicken Point Road. This road is only a very short distance from the bridge [probably less than100 yards ]. You go up Chicken Point Road probably less than 100 yards and the parking lot for the Poplar Island dock is on the left. 



As before, the bus will be waiting for us on Poplar Island to start the birding trip. At about 1.30 p.m. we will catch the boat back to Tilghman Island. This has to be one of the best birding deals ever as the cost for the transportation is zero! Please let me know if you are interested in booking for the trip.
