Hi all,

The same female cardinal I saw messing around with material in Rock
Creek Park a couple days ago was not messing around today, building a
nest in a viney tangle near Picnic Ground 3. Towhees in the same area
are pretty worked up as well, had a female skulking around in the duff
while a male followed her whisper singing and trying to fend off two
other males. Phoebes are everywhere, with nearly every bridge across
the creek having a singing male now.

Also, American Toads have begun chorusing. My wife and I found a large
group yesterday evening along the Valley Trail north of West Beach
Drive. A great place to view them in all their glory, amongst the
Skunk Cabbage in the ponds there, dewlaps out and amplexus all around.
