I kayaked at Back River this afternoon, beginning at Cox Point Park and heading to the west and across the river. It was really a spectacular afternoon, and there were a variety of birds along the river. I found one medium sized group of Bonaparte's Gulls, which allowed fairly close views. While I didn't find any rare gulls, I did get good looks at much of the Bonaparte's flock. Gull totals from this afternoon were 134 Bonaparte's, 28 Ring-billed Gulls, 7 Herring Gulls, and 5 Great Black-backed Gulls. It appeared to be close to high tide when I was there, and no gulls were in the Diamond Point area.

Other birds seen on, over, or along the river included one Osprey, one Bald Eagle, seven coots, nine Double-crested Cormorants, many Fish Crows, Red-winged Blackbirds, two Common Grackles, juncos, White-throated Sparrows, Northern Cardinals, a few Blue Jays, and several robins.
