Maryland Birders -
Yesterday (3/25) was a Talbot County Bird Club Work Day at the
Mill Creek Sanctuary which is on Rte 662 near Wye Mills, Talbot County. A
report on the work accomplished is provided below.
Most important for visitors is that new gate posts were installed
at the parking site. The gate is not locked, it just has to be opened by
lifting it over the pin at the bottom of the post on the non-hinged end.

Subject: Mill Creek Sanctuary Work Day March 25, 2012
Eight members from the Talbot County Bird Club worked for 4 hrs./ea. on
Sunday morning March 25, 2012 at our Mill Creek Sanctuary just off rte. 50
on rte. 662 near Wye Mills, Talbot County. One of our two main objectives
was to move and repair a foot bridge that had been dislodged and washed 25
ft. from it's proper location during the flood waters from a storm a few
years ago. I am happy to report that 5 strong backed members were able to
lever the bridge out of the sand it had imbedded itself into, and return it
to it's rightful place and function. Our other objective was to clean and
tidy up the entrance and parking area. Leaves were racked, wood neatly
stacked, trees and noxious shrubbery trimmed and trash and debris removed.
The gate to this area has been rehinged and realigned to work properly now
and should afford easier access to the parking lot. The leaves and twigs
were also removed from the roof of the shelter at the top of the hill.
Thanks to the following members who came to work on a misty morning,
Herman Espenhorst, Les Roslund, Danny Poet, Wayne Bell, Dave Palmer, Vince
DeSanctis, Jan Reese who organized the work day, and Terry Allen.
If you visit Mill Creek Sanctuary, which Talbot invites all to do, just
lift and open the gate to enter the parking area. As you walk down the hill
you will see the reinstalled foot bridge. The boundaries of Mill Creek to
the south of rte. 662 were clearly marked last year. The boundaries to the
north of rte. 662 have not been, but plan to do so in the near future. When
you leave, please be sure to close the gate securely by lifting the gate
over pin in bottom of post. There is no lock on this gate.
We were serenaded while we worked by two f.o.y., for most, Louisiana
Waterthrushes.
