MDOsprey:

The MD/DC Records Committee (MD/DCRC) held it's annual meeting a few
weeks ago and several committee review packages recently finished
circulation. As a result, we just posted a number of updates on our
MD/DCRC web page (http://www.mdbirds.org/mddcrc/rcindex.html).

Here are shortcuts to and summaries of some of the major updates ...

1. Committee Members. Three members recently completed their voting
terms: Tyler Bell, Gwen Brewer, and Mikey Lutmerding. The committee
thanks them for their efforts. New members elected for three-year
terms were: Patty Craig (St. Mary's), Rob Ostrowski (Anne Arundel),
and Dan Small (Queen Anne's). A full list of the current members is
here ... http://www.mdbirds.org/mddcrc/pdf/rcmembers.pdf

2. Official List of the Birds of Maryland. In a previous message to
MD Osprey, I reported that Barnacle Goose had been added to the
Maryland list. The committee has now also added Cassin's Sparrow to
the MD list based on the acceptance of the bird found at Point
Lookout State Park (St. Mary's Co) by Mikey Lutmerding on September
26, 2010. These two additions bring the number of species on the
Maryland list to 440. The Official List of the Birds of Maryland is
here ... http://www.mdbirds.org/mddcrc/pdf/mdlist.pdf.

3. Review Lists. The committee made changes to the its Maryland and
DC Review Lists, found here ...

         MD http://www.mdbirds.org/mddcrc/pdf/mdreview.pdf
         DC http://www.mdbirds.org/mddcrc/pdf/dcreview.pdf

Changes include the following:

Northern Goshawk. Added to the MD and DC Review Lists in
category 2, reviewable anywhere in MD/DC.

Brewer's Blackbird. Restored to the MD Review List in
category 2, reviewable anywhere in MD.

Roseate Tern. Moved from category 4A (reviewable only away
from coastal Worcester Co) to category 2, now reviewable anywhere in
MD, statewide.

4. Reporting Form. The committee revised it's reporting form to
accommodate some user feedback and to reflect the results of a best
practice survey of reporting forms used by other states and
provinces. (If you are interested in seeing the specific changes that
were implemented on our form, they are highlighted in Attachment A to
our Annual Meeting minutes, see below.) The revised, updated form can
be found here ...

         PDF version http://www.mdbirds.org/mddcrc/pdf/rcform.pdf

         Word version http://www.mdbirds.org/mddcrc/rcform.doc

Our online, web-based reporting form will be updated with the changes
in the near future.

5. 2012 Annual Meeting Minutes and Annual Business Report. Detailed
minutes of our meeting and annual business report are posted here ...
http://www.mdbirds.org/mddcrc/pdf/rcannual2012.pdf.

6. 2011 Skins Workshop Minutes. A report on our 2011 Skins Workshop,
held at the Smithsonian, is posted here ...
http://www.mdbirds.org/mddcrc/pdf/rcskins2011.pdf.

Species accounts, illustrated with photos, in this report are:

         1. Peucaea Sparrows [Cassin's, Bachman's, and Botteri's
Sparrows] by Bill Hubick and Mikey Lutmerding
         2. Common and Arctic Terns by Fred Shaffer
         3. Anna's/Ruby-throated/Black-chinned Hummingbirds by Tyler Bell
         4. Northern and Loggerhead Shrikes by Ron Gutberlet
         5. Carolina and Black-capped Chickadees by Mike Bowen
         6. "Black-backed" Robin by Walter Ellison
         7. Winter and Pacific Wrens by Fred Shaffer.

Thanks to John Christy, MOS Webmaster, for posting these changes.

Hope this helps.

Phil
