Decided to spend my bithday birding in Worcerster County with my husband, to see what new birds we could find. We were not disappointed. Ocean City inlet had more people than birds, but we did manage to get a few Northern GANNETS and BLACK and SURF SCOTERS. Assateaque was next, with no luck finding the Lark Sparrow, but more GANNETS and SCOTERS oceanside. The fun stuff started when we started to drive down Ferry Landing access road, and was able to hear, than see, my sought after bird - 2 YELLOW THROATED WARBLERS. Also in the area, BROWN HEADED NUTHATCH, YELLOW BELLIED SAPSUCKER, PINE WARBLERS. The picnic area past the campground access, had a flyby CASPIAN TERN. The marshy area behind the campground was active as well. I had never seen so many TRI-COLORED HERONS in one spot - no fewer than 12. Also, a BLACK BELLIED PLOVER and15 DUNLIN fed in the sand bars, and at least 12 GREAT EGRETS scattered about. After leaving Assateaque, we stumbled upon a SNOWY EGRET in the marshy area past the bridge. Truitt's Landing was next, again, with nothing unusual, but a WILD TURKEY trapsing through the woods kept us amused, and a close HORNED GREBE at the waters edge, at the end of the road was nice. We made several other stops at oceanside and bayside areas, and found nothing unusual, but the number of BUFFLHEADS and RED BREASTED MERGANSERS at our stops was impressive. All in all, a nice way to welcome in the month of April!
