SPECIAL ANNOUCMENT: MARYLAND PELAGIC TRIP

WHY:  We had great Maryland Pelagics on 2/4 and 3/17, and will be going after them again on Saturday May 12th.  We have not been offshore in MD waters for a long time in mid-May, but the track record of the past has been impressive.  The time of year puts us in the sweet spot for many spring pelagics, both north bound arctic nesters, and Southern Hemisphere breeders up here for their winter - Sooty, Manx and Great Shearwaters, Wilson's and Leach's Storm-Petrels, Red and Red-necked Phalarope, Pomarine and Parasitic Jaeger.  Potential rarities will quicken your heart - Sabine's Gull, Arctic Tern, Long-tailed Jaeger, South Polar Skua.  The date matches the MOS May Count, so it will be exciting to be able to add, hopefully, a few pelagic species to this year's list.

WHAT:  Nearshore (20-40 miles offshore) pelagic in Maryland ONLY waters, on the 55’ Morning Star, with Captain Monty Hawkins, veteran captain of pelagics off Maryland.

WHEN: May 12, 2012.  12-hour trip.  Leave 6 am, return 6 pm. Be at dock by 5:45 am. No weather date.  NOTE CHANGE IN TIMES.

COST :  $125 per person (payable to Morning Star) plus $15 to Mark Hoffman for mate tip and chum (payable by cash or check day of to Mark Hoffman).  Co-leaders Hafner and Lutmerding.

HOW:  Phone Morning Star reservation desk at 410-520-2076 with credit card info; you will also need to provide cell phone number to Morning Star reservation desk so you can be contacted in case we know Friday the trip is a no-go for Saturday.   I will set up an email list also.

WHERE: Morningstar is docked at the West Ocean City Fishing Center .  Turn right at last light before bridge into Ocean City . Take left into parking area and fishing center. The Morning Star is by the Travel Lift, Dock B, Slip 2.   The GPS address is “13001 Inlet Isle Lane, Ocean City, MD, 21842”.

Calm seas,
Mark Hoffman
