Couldn't resist the beautiful day yesterday, to be outside birding. Conowingo Dam still had at a good number of BALD EAGLES-at least 48. DOUBLE CRESTED CORMORANTS must be on the move, seen spectacular numbers at Conowingo and Lapidum. Also had 8 BLACK CROWNED NIGHT HERONS along the rocks and trees at Conowingo; there were probably more, hiding from my view! BONAPARTES GULLS were evident at both Conowingo and Lapidum. I had a NORTHERN ROUGH WINGED SWALLOW at Conowingo as well as one arriving at the Rock Run walking bridge at Susquehanna State Park. Also saw a duck at the pond at Susqehanna State Park picnic area that I'm not 100% sure of - my best quess was either a female or juvenille RING NECKED DUCK. BLUE GRAY GNATCATCHER at the picnic area was very vocal, singing up a storm. Finally, ended the day at Swan Harbor. Saw John Dennehey (please forgive me if I spelled your name wrong!), and he alerted me to the AMERICAN BITTERNS, just pumping away-had at least 3, if not more, in the phrags along the trail. Also, the continuing BARN SWALLOW and at least 2 NORTHERN ROUGH WINGED SWALLOWS with the TREE SWALLOWS, and a couple PURPLE MARTINS were a great way to end the day. Good Birding!
