Total observation time: 6 hours
Official Counter: Sue Ricciardi
Observers: Hal Wierenga
Weather:
Mostly cloudy; 61-73 degrees; good visibility; winds northwesterly, 3-16
mph, increasing over the course of the day
Raptor Observations:
Non-raptor Observations:
55 Common Loons (7 flying north, 48 on river); Sora continues to call;
Pileated Woodpecker. There was a huge northward movement of some kind of
large fly along with some beetles and large bees. So many were coming by
that at times there was a drone of noise from the flight. I counted the
number just coming right toward me as I sat in my chair in 4 one-minute
intervals. The average number of individuals per minute was about 80.
That means about 19,200 in the four hours that I was aware of the flight.
I have no idea how broad the passage was.
