The highlight of this afternoon's semi-monthly walk around the Luther
Goldman Birding Trail at Lake Artemesia was a Merlin. It flew north
across the lake carrying dinner, then landed on top of a utility pole
to consume its prey. An Osprey and an adult Bald Eagle were the only
other raptors.

Also present on the lake were two Horned Grebes, an alternate plumage
bird present only before the walk and a basic plumage bird present
only during the walk. Other lingering waterfowl included two Ruddy
Ducks and a Coot.
