Hi Everybody:

I decided to go into work later today and headed to Carroll County for some early morning birding. I concentrated on marshy areas and open bodies of water with a few stops along the way. Highlights of the morning included:

NEW WINDSOR WETLAND
Blue-winged Teal     6
Wilson's Snipe         8

On Rt. 84 while driving over the Meadow Branch crossing I heard a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT singing.

STUDY RD. - A Mallard and Canada Geese only on the pond
Red-headed Woodpecker        1
Tree Swallow                           1
Savannah Sparrow                  2
Eastern Meadowlark                1

BROWN ROAD - UNION MILLS WETLAND
Solitary Sandpiper                   1     my FOY

MEADOW BRANCH RD (adjacent to the airport)
Ring-billed Gulls                       5
Savannah Sparrow                 2

CRANBERRY RESERVOIR
Greater Scaup                1
Hooded Merganser        1
Common Loon               1  in fulll breeding plumage
Bonaparte's Gull           1  feeding mostly by the water'sedge and several times walking feeding on the edge of the bank
N. Rough-winged Swallow    1

PINEY RUN PARK
Bufflehead                  3
Hooded Merganser     3
Ring-necked Duck       3
Pied-billed Grebe        1
Common Loon            1   Also in full breeding plumage
Tree Swallow             3
Barn Swallow             1

On the drive back to work on Rt. 97 when crossing into Howard County (south branch of the Patapsco River) I heard a Louisiana Waterthrush singing on the Howard County side.

It was a great morning to be out!
