Kye Jenkins and Ruth Bergstrom did an exceptional birding job as they led this morning's Chesapeake Audubon walk at Adkins Arboretum, especially since there weren't a large variety of birds around. The trip was somewhat noteworthy for what we hoped/expected to find but didn't. But guess what: it was still a very enjoyable time with some nice birds.

Selected birds of the day:

Laughing Gull (8 maybe, providing some real pleasure with their laughing)
Hermit Thrush (1, singing, beautiful)
Brown Thrasher (3-4, much comical singing)
Barred Owl (1, singing)
Junco (1)
Swamp Sparrow (a few)
Field Sparrow (common, lovely background music as we birded)
RC Kinglets (half dozen maybe, with some really cool full songs)
Gnatcatcher (lots)
Flicker (couple)
Pileated (1-2)
Osprey (couple three)
Pine Warbler (2)
Yellow-Rumped Warbler (several)
Ovenbird (1, using Star Trek cloaking device)
Common Yellowthroat (lots)
