Joe and I spent most of today on Ruff watch, to no avail. There were other birders present on and off, and many other birds. It was a beautiful day to be at the Jackson Landing area of Patuxent River Park.

WOOD THRUSHES, NORTHERN PARULAS, AND OVENBIRDS were numerous. We heard a HOODED WARBLER, two GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHERS, a WORM-EATING WARBLER, a RED-EYED VIREO, a YELLOW-THROATED VIREO and a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER. An EASTERN KINGBIRD was in the yard near the scoping area. The most unexpected bird was a male SUMMER TANAGER, vocalizing tentatively and trying to avoid being photographed (it succeeded).
