Hi all,

Late this morning Barry and I went down to Hains Point, DC, to see what was about. Not a very nice day, and the strong NW wind coming off the river made things rather unpleasant. A few FOS for us but no rarities, alas. Since the golf course drainage issues have been fixed we don't see the large pools with resting gulls which, in past springs, have yielded Franklin's Gulls as well as shore birds. Good for the golfers I guess, bad for birders...

Most interesting birds were two ORCHARD ORIOLES singing (FOS) and a singing NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH (FOS), an EASTERN KINGBIRD (FOS) as well as a male Yellowthroat, three Brown Thrashers, a Gray Catbird, a singing House Wren, about a dozen Myrtle Warblers, three Swamp, one Field, ten or so Song, a dozen Chipping and an unexpected 35+ White-throated Sparrows, most birds were along the lane or in trees near the maintenance yard. Nothing of note on the river except dozens of hawking swallows of three species (numbers of these are best estimates).

A complete eBird list is below.
