I was surprised to come upon appx two dozen B Swallows VERY actively criss-crossing a small farm pond (off of Catholic Church Rd appx 1 mile from the intersection with Gapland Rd, Frederick Co.) during yesterday's off and on showers and cold winds.  I can only assume that there was some kind of hatch going on that had been set in motion by the earlier warmer weather.  I didn't try to get confirmation on the hatch...private property issues and all of that, but i can't think of any other reason for the behavior...
