Hi Everyone,

Megan Ramstrom and I made our weekly trip to Riley Roberts Rd this morning (25 Apr 2012) in the Deal Island WMA, Somerset Co. Jim Green met us there after he had already done some pre-dawn birding elsewhere in the county. A few dabblers continue in the marsh that is seen from the turnoff with the gravel pile:

American Wigeon 4
Northern Shoveler 2
Green-winged Teal 5
Blue-winged Teal 4

Two Yellow Warblers were singing and easily seen along Riley Roberts Rd; 2 others were on nearby Green Dumpster Rd (easy to see there too).

Jim Green found 2 Cattle Egrets near the Messick Rd pond. We went by to check them out and also had an Eastern Kingbird there.

We had one Pectoral Sandpiper along Green Dumpster Rd among many yellowlegs and 5 Least Sandpipers. Two Black-necked Stilts were also here. Earlier in the morning, Ellen Lawler's ornithology class had seen a Sora here, and Jim saw an American Redstart.

Canada Geese with small yellow goslings were seen at all stops.

Have fun,

Ron Gutberlet
