I stopped by Melwood Road this morning and saw and heard an incredible number of Bobolinks in and over the fields. I estimated at least 110 Bobolinks. Birds were seen in the grassy fields, atop surrounding snags and trees, and flying around and overhead in groups of 30 or 40. Rick Borchelt was also there and he estimated a similiar number. Other birds present included a few Eastern Meadowlarks, singing Yellow-breasted Chats, several Orchard Orioles, several Grasshopper Sparrows, two Savannah Sparrows, Field Sparrows, Brown Thrashers, and a Northern Harrier hunting over one of the fields.
