Andy,
I remember that bird! I recall that it had a broken leg, if my memory serves correctly. I saw it on my birthday, May 16, 1995. That pond was a pretty good migrant trap; too bad it's gone.

Just
ishful thinking I guess in that only spring LB Dowitcher record in eBird
rom Piedmont area is as a bird found back in May '95 by Dave Czaplak and
aryann Todd at now extinct pond along Rt 108 near Olney.

Subject: [MDOSPREY] SB Dowitcher at Germantown Soccerplex, MoCo
Around 11 AM this morning, there was single Short-billed Dowitcher mixed in
ith a few Spotted, Solitary, Least Sandpipers as well as Lesser Yellowlegs
nd Killdeer at the small pond inside the Germantown Soccerplex. The pond
s in really good shape for shorebirds, although a decent thunderstorm
ould fill it up fast and ruin things. Its amazing how long their bills can
ook sometimes when their not with another 100 of their own kind but I just
ould not find any other feature to turn it into a Long-billed. Just
ishful thinking I guess in that only spring LB Dowitcher record in eBird
rom Piedmont area is as a bird found back in May '95 by Dave Czaplak and
aryann Todd at now extinct pond along Rt 108 near Olney.
