Hi Everybody: I was stuck at work late today and am working this entire w/e so there is no chance for me to add a potential state bird to my list. Glad to hear that just about everybody that tried for the Anhinga was able to see it.

On the way home from work I stopped at the Germantown Soccerplex (I accessed off of Rt. 118) and was delighted to find the Short-billed Dowitcher in the same location previously reported by Andy Martin earlier in the day. I will echo Andy's thoughts that this pond is fairly low water-level wise and currently has great conditions for shorebirds. The Dow is in breeding plumage (the sun was behind me) and it can be observed behind some bushes from about 30-40 feet away without disturdance to the shorebirds.

After a half hour at home I headed towards the Annapolis Rock Rd horse parking lot. On the way I stopped along Hipsley Mill Rd (at the woodcock stop - 1/2 mile south of the intersection with Annap. Rock Rd). I was there for about 15 minutes beginning at 7:40 PM and there were 2 Blue-winged Warblers, 3-4 Ovenbirds and 1 Kentucky Warbler singing. I spent just after sunset until complete darkness in the horse trailer parking lot hoping for some great night birds but that was not about to come true. I did have 1 American woodcock fly silently by.

Here's hoping the AA Anhinga makes reservations at Lake Waterford through at least late Monday afternoon.
