Like most other spots, Ft. Bayard Park (River Rd & Western Ave., NW DC) saw a
ood push of migrants two weeks ago, and not much last week. Today migrants
ere back in force, the best being a male BAY-BREASTED WARBLER (and a
riefly-seen bird that may have been an additional female).
There were lots of warblers with moderate diversity. Other notables (though
oth fairly regular here on good spring days), were a female BLACKBURNIAN and a
inging CHESTNUT-SIDED (with a somewhat unusual song). There were 2
LACK-THROATED GREENS, 3 (possibly more) each of MAGNOLIA, BLACKPOLL, and AM.
EDSTART, and 4 BLACK-THROATED BLUES. There was also a singing SWAINSON'S
HRUSH, and a singing SCARLET TANAGER gave nice looks in the sun.
I've had nice if not especially post-worthy birds so far this spring (and less
pportunity to post). Barring a good late find over the next week, this could
e my last dispatch--I'm moving away from the park and the city, and will need
o find a new patch in the Philadelphia suburb I'm moving to.
My Fort Bayard list stands at 124 species, but maybe late migration will give me
last addition or two before I'm out of here....
