Dave Powell and I spent some time listening to the Henslow's in the pasture last evening. It is amazing how much the grass has grown since Monday, when I was last out there. The grass now obscures all of the Henslow's favorite perches, so for those considering coming on Saturday to get good looks at Henslow's Sparrow, let me warn you now.

It will be very difficult to see the bird and there is a chance we will only hear it. The field trip offer still stands though and we will work hard at trying to get a good angle to see it. This particular bird changes perches a lot so hopefully we will be able to see him fly and land somewhere out in the open at least once while we are out there.

Also, this bird is farther away from my house and is harder to hear from the driveway, so I really recommend this trip as the best time to come listen.

Again, the trip will be from 6:45-7:30am tomorrow May 19th. If you already sent me an email saying you'd like to come, I'll be answering those this morning.

Thank you,

Matt Hafner
