HI all,

A short stop at both Wheaton Regional Park (as well as Brookside Gardens) and the northern part of Sligo Park, primarily to check the many snags for Olive-sided Flycatchers. These parks have been good in previous years, both spring and autumn, for this species. Alas no OSFC but there were a few migrants and interesting local breeders about.

At BG, a singing Warbling Vireo (there for 2nd week if same bird, possibly breeding), multiple Baltimore Orioles, a single Scarlet tanager, female Redstart and unseen singing Blackpoll, Northern Waterthrush and Veery were about the most interesting birds. At WRP, a small flurry of activity near the head of Pine Lake with a beautiful singing male Canada, Redstart, Magnolia, Blackpoll and unseen Yellowthroat, several fruiting serviceberry trees hosted Veery and multiple Swainson's Thrushes, while locally breeding Ovenbirds, Wood Thrushes, Acadian and Great Crested FCs sang in the woods. The lake was devoid of action save Tree Swallows, several Swifts drinking and a single Great Blue Heron. Raptors included a vocal Red-shouldered and very quiet large (female?) Cooper's Hawk.

At Sligo, the snags near the ponds hosted only a couple of Eastern Kingbirds and the ponds' muddy edges had a Spotted and a Solitary Sandpiper. The only warbler was a unseen Blackpoll.
