Jon and I decided to go bird Wooten's landing near dusk tonight. We arrived about 7 p.m. There were several excellent birds, including a Black Billed Cuckoo and Least Bittern, as well as a wonderful flock of 30 + Cedar Waxwings that accompanied us on our walk for awhile. They were very close and very beautiful in the late evening sun!

There also was a Green Heron that flew high into a tree and was calling stridently, giving us a great look. It flew into some trees further away, and kept calling. Soon two birds flew out of the tree - and I thought there were 2 Green Heron. But no, the lead bird turned out to be a GLOSSY IBIS. It flew very close by, giving us a great look, then landed in a dead snag in the open wetland right near the walking path. Very good views.

After watching, we walked on. The bird was still there when we returned. About 7:45 it lifted and flew a bit, and seemed to settle a bit further back, away from the path and out of sight.

Not sure if it will remain in the morning - the habitat probably isn't ideal for a long stay.
