Birded the last scheduled walk at Cylburn city park w/Joe Lewandowski.
All the no-shows hopefully had better luck elsewhere. Not much to see or
hear, save Robins, Catbirds and constantly serenading WOOD THRUSH
[a good thing]. Joe called it quits shortly after we started down the
infamous, steep "trail" to the city stump dump below. I persevered, work-
ing my way around numerous deadfall trees blocking the "path" and
dangerously gullied-out portions of the last half down, and added some
good species additions on the way down to those in the vicinity of a
swampy area adjacent to the stump dump. Seen/heard [22spp]:

During my plodding ascent back topside, paying obeisance to those 85
years, I took a short sit on a log in the shade and enjoyed an unexpected
highlight of the day. Just before sitting, I flushed a red bird, which I
followed w/the bins & had a brief look at a Cardinal. Shortly afterwards,
I spotted a red bird working its way down from the canopy overhead.
When I got the bins on it in a small shrub just 15 feet away, I was de-
lighted to see a male Scarlet Tanager, resplendent in its spring plumage.
It would alternately sing and give its "chick-burr" call. I enjoyed several
long looks before it went back topside--a welcome "plus" to an other-
wise sad reminder of spring migration's imminent end.
