This is just a quick note to say that the IBA Birdathon on Friday-Saturday was a great success with a team total of 189 species recorded from 12:10 on Friday to 12:10 on Saturday. We did not have any spectacular rarities but a good solid showing of Maryland's migrant and resident birds. Some nice finds included breeding plumage Common Loons at Piney Reservoir in Garrett County, 2 Red-necked Phalaropes in western Garrett County, and Parasitic Jaeger at Assateague.

Mikey Lutmerding, David Ziolkowski and Chris Milensky made a fantastic team and we had a lot of fun. Chris's driving skills backing out of a traffic jam over the Ocean City bridge saved us a lot of time and provided a minor highlight of the day!

I'll be posting an account of the day at a later date. Meanwhile, it's not too late to pledge and make a donation to the Important Bird Areas program. You can do this online at http://mddc.audubon.org/

Good Birding!
