Just a quick note on OC today, as well as a late PM sighting at Sandy
Point on my return trip home.

Worcester:
Early this AM, I am 99% certain I observed a / the Great White Heron
on Skimmer. The bird was huge, had a massive bill and thick gray
green legs. But since all of the dots didn't connect until I was on
the floor of the Ocean City Convention Center, I shall not add it to
my list. I mention it here so that others might keep an eye out if
you're birding Skimmer in the near future.

Taylor McClean (*SORRY if I spelled your name wrong Taylor!!*) joined
me to enjoy the Whimbrel and Red Knots on Skimmer, as well as the
Black Tern and Sooty Shearwaters at the OC Inlet. Later this
afternoon, he called an left me a message that he had 15 (maybe 17?,
I'll have to check my messages again) Sooty Shearwaters during a sea
watch at Assateague. Intrigued, I stopped by the Inlet on my way home
for 30 minutes. I counted up to 11 Sooties, all of them speedily
moving North, out near the horizon.

At Skimmer, all the usual terns were present, but no Arctic or Roseate
(or even a Sabine's Gull, for that matter). Five Whimbrel remained,
as well as several Red Knot. Two Tricolored Heron looked to be
courting on Skimmer, which was a good show.

Anne Arundel:
As I got over the Bay Bridge this evening (around 7:50), I noticed a
good concentration of gulls on the beach at Sandy Point. I quickly
stopped in before the park closed and found nothing rare within the
flock. However, a quick check of the North end of the park offered up
SIX RUDDY TURNSTONE, a personal high count in the county for me, on
the jetty (western-most) off the East Beach. Light was quickly
fading, and there were at least three Semi Sands with them, but I
couldn't ID a few of the other peeps halfway hidden amongst the
boulders on the jetty.

And is anyone else inspired to see that Jim Stasz is about to crack
300 in MD? I'd like to offer up my 'congrats' to Jim. And while I'm
at it, congratulations to Dave & Mary Ann on all of the Montgomery
finds!

May the hits keep coming...

Good Birding,
