Went to Violette's this morning hoping to catch a glimpse of either
the Common or Arctic terns reported yesterday by Dave C. No terns
while I was there, but an alternate plumage Red-necked Phalarope was a
nice consolation prize! It was just upstream of the rapids near the
Virginia shore. Was repeatedly flying a short distance, then landing
on the water to "spin". It was still there when I left around 8:15am,
but I'm not optimistic it will stick around for long, since it's
behavior suggested it was looking for food but not finding much.

This is only the third county eBird record, the first since 2006, and
the only one not in September.

Good birding!
