Paul,
I have had two "heard only" Black-billed Cuckoos pass through here, but, thus far, no Yellow-billed. Moderate number of tent caterpillar webs around, so that is likely not the cause...

 But does anyone have the
ense that Cuckoos are way scarce?

We have had the usual number of House Wrens in the neighborhood, the first on
/15. Our first male Hummingbird arrived at the feeder on 4/18 which is about a
eek earlier than usual. The first female was on May 1 and we now have our
ormal two pairs regularly coming to the feeders. But does anyone have the
ense that Cuckoos are way scarce? And one more sign of the times: we have had
young Raven following an adult around the neighborhood, begging. We have not
een able to locate a nest site but we hear them most frequently near the corner
f Rutgers and Yale in the College Gardens subdivision of Rockville. The Crows
nd Blue Jays mob the Ravens regularly. It will be interesting to see if a new
aptor in town has any effect on our resident Red-shouldered or Cooper's Hawks,
ot to mention the Crows and Blue Jays.

ame situation over here in Talbot County. No regular visiting by Hummers.
have seen three individual visits to my feeder - spread out over the past
onth. Also saw three hummers out in fields when birding in the region. In
rior years a pair has taken residence in early May and been regular
isitors for several weeks.
Regarding House Wrens - close to the same story. I have seen three at
arious sites while out birding, but none taking residence here at home.

Hi --
We also have had NO hummers in our garden (blooming trumpet vine and native
oneysuckle) although a fellow who lives next to Wheaton Regional Park and
ot his feeder up early said he had a bunch all together about two weeks ago
nd still some now (although we've yet to see one there).
Very low numbers of neotropical migrants this year at any of our local
ites...
