At about noon today, while kayaking on Whitehall Creek in my community of Amberley, a MIKI sailed overhead at about tree top height. Without a doubt, today's ten-second long sighting was my best / closest views ever of this species. I was delighted to add this species to my 'community' list. But I admit, had I been hawk watching in my driveway, I doubt this bird would have been visible for the 'yard' list. ;)
Of course, my camera was at home. I know I could bring it out on the water with me, but I have a fear of submerged electronics, camera gear, etc.
I grabbed my dry bag, got my phone out (cautiously) and called Sue and the gang at Ft Smallwood to alert them of my observation. Here's hoping that this bird flew past the hawk watch today.
Good Birding,
