Hi All,

For a change of scenery, I hiked the Wildlands trail along the Gunpowder River (easten side I believe, but don't quote me) with my girlfriends family. It was a very nice walk and produced some nice summer-flavored species.

Red-tailed Hawk 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker 2
Downy Woodpecker 1
Hairy Woodpecker 1
Pileated Woodpecker 1
Eastern Wood-pewee 4
Acadian Flycatcher 5
Great Crested Flycatcher 1
Red-eyed Vireo 4
White-eyed Vireo 1
Blue Jay 7
American Crow 1
Barn Swallow 1
Tufted Titmouse 2
Carolina Chickadee 8
White-breasted Nuthatch 1
Carolina Wren 1
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 4
American Robin 6
Wood Thrush 5
Northern Parula 1
Ovenbird 4 (we watched a momma go to a nest and feed babies just a few yards off the path. So cool!)
Louisiana Waterthrush 1
Kentucky Warbler 1
Scarlet Tanager 2
Common Grackle 4
Baltimore Oriole 1
American Goldfinch 1

The Louisiana wasn't actually on the trail. Just a couple hundred yards up from the trail parking lot there is a restaurant/bar called the Gunpowder Lodge. Sarah's dad Fred actually picked it up first as we were parking in the restaurant lot and and asked what it was since we hadn't heard it earlier.

The Kentucky was on the trail. About an 8th of a mile (give or take a bit) up the river from the parking lot there are some low brushy islands that, when the river is high like now are damp and fully surrounded by flowing water. If you keep walking up the trail towards where the Wildlands trail meets that main trail along the river, the side opposite the river, looking up towards the eastern ridge has a low brushy tangle filled with raspberry and grape vines. He was perched, low but visible and singing persistently.

Good Birding!
