This is a good question, especially since it's not always practical or reasonable to seek out a visual of every singing GW (or BW) one comes across on Old Legislative Rd. or elsewhere, especially if, say, the song is a good distance away. Two of us had 8 seeming GWs recently--5 we saw so we're sure of those. At least one of the other 3 was a GW primary song--so it could have possibly been a hybrid (like Mark Johnson's Brewster's) or, less likely, a BW. We didn't want to spend all day trying to get looks at every single one b/c we had other birding to do, so we pretty much settled for calling the songs as GW.

How many Blue Wings have actually been seen of late on Old Legislative Rd.? This spring? Years past? I haven't kept track of every post. Lately, haven't most been GWs? Although the secondary songs of each of those 2 species are very similar, they are distinct enough to make a reasonable call, at least that's what I've noticed based on hearing the secondary GW and BW songs on recordings as well as at Old L Rd and Susquehanna SP--although, again, and especially with the 2ndary songs, it's hard to be sure.

Who has done a visual survey of the region on Old Leg. Rd. and what have the results been? Again, if my memory of this spring's posts is correct, there have been mostly GWs seen. Any GUESS as to the #s inhabiting that stretch? I'm guessing it would be useful to know.

What would be the best way to eBird unseen golden-winged singers? Any guidance on that, please?

Thanks,
