Interestingly, I've actually heard that Hooded Warbler version frequently in NJ. I've heard that the "different" songs used by migrants, especially warblers, are the dawn or "aggressive" songs. I have never had an explanation as to why birds mix up their repertoires with different songs, but I have heard this dawn/aggressive song used to explain variations in song frequently. Maybe they just get bored singing the same thing!
