Dear subscribers,

 

It is truly amazing to me the number of people that I have never met nor
communicated with who now think they know all about me and my motivations.
And then there are those whom, until today, I considered friends.  I guess
I'm saddened but not surprised.  A few of you have defended my policies and
for that I am appreciative.

 

In July 1987 I started a computer bulletin board, The Osprey's Nest, which
some of you oldtimers probably remember.  That was one of the first attempts
to share birds and birding on computers and it lasted until November 1997.

 

In October 1997 I set up MDOsprey, focused entirely on the birds of Maryland
and the birders of Maryland.  If you count that up it amounts to 25 years
attempting to give back to the birding community in Maryland for all the joy
I have taken in birding.  

 

Over the years the cost of MDOsprey has increased slowly but surely to over
$1,000 a year.  I am now retired and feel I have better uses for my funds.
Further, I am tired of the harassment I constantly take for the ways I have
chosen to run MDOsprey.

 

This is my last posting to MDOsprey.  I plan to take MDOsprey down after
this has time to be delivered.  I am not sorry, since there are so many good
ideas floating around and deep pockets to fund these ideas, and also people
who have Special Forces friends.not sure if this was a veiled threat or what
but God bless our armed forces.

 

It's been a great 25 years, thanks to all of you for sharing over the years.
