Subject: [MDBirding] Wheaton Regional Park today

Hi all,

A foggy start to the morning but bird activity started early with a fast-moving flock of warblers, almost all Chestnut-sideds with a smattering of Redstarts, as well as some interesting Empids and a few other migrants. When the sun broke through at about 8:30 things actually slowed for some time, we found only scattered individuals along Pine Lake but a fair diversity of species (Blue-winged, Canada, Parula, Yellowthroat). As we were starting to leave we noticed some bird activity in the gravel parking lot near the big mulch pile -- a large feeding group of Bluebirds, Chipping Sparrows and House Finches -- investigating this we caught sight of another mixed migrant flock coming in to trees and shrubs along the edge -- among the more numerous Redstarts and Chestnut-sideds was another bright Blue-winged and our first WORM-EATING WARBLER of the autumn. Three Empids challenged as they didn't want to give clear views! We checked all the snags in the area for Olive-sided FC but no joy.
