Subject: [MDBirding] Woodbine Nighthawks

At just after 6 PM I looked out the back window and noticed a Common Nighthawk flying around over the backyard. Stepped outside to the deck and watched as about 2 dozen nighthawks flew around over my yard and my neighbors farm fields swooping low, circling, winging all over in search of food. Many stayed right over the yard, fairly low at times (even my non-biriding son-in-law mentioned their wing patches!) None of us had (or even needed ) binoculars to enjoy the show, which lasted only about 10 minutes, then was over. Later I found a flying ant on my hand, so assume we had another hatch and that's why all the birds were here.Right now the yard is covered with a huge mixed flock of cowbirds and starlings, feeding in the grass here and in the other neighbors yard.

Lots of bluebirds around this afternoon, and a Scarlet Tanager, as well as loads of hummers, and pewees, Chimney Swifts, and House finches. Lots of mosquitos around too, driving all of us back inside...
