Subject: [MDBirding] Yard birds (a good morning)

Morning all,
SO MANY BIRDS! After the sun finally rose and started to warm things up, there were really great numbers of birds around, with a few nice finds here for my yard. I had my second yard record for Red-breasted Nuthatch, with a single in one of our pear trees beeping away until it flew south over the backyard, a second-record Warbling Vireo which lingered in the yard, feeding and slowly moving around, my third record Blackburnian Warbler, a gorgeous individual in full sun about 25 feet away, and my FOY Yellow-billed Cuckoo (!), which flew up the driveway and over my head into and through the backyard.

But those were just the highlights. As the sun warmed the front field, it came alive with birds, mostly chippies and finches, and bluebirds, but a few warblers (including the BLWA), at least 2 Scarlet Tanagers, several empid flycatchers, and others. The whole yard was really active, with birds passing over and through until just before 10 when things died down. I have never seen a morning with so much activity in our yard! Hummers were everywhere.

Can't wait to see what others have found in better locations. A really great movement last night!
