Hi All,
Great afternoon for Broad-wings over DC. First, my wife and I had a nice brunch at The Heights in Columbia Heights and upon walking outside we were meet with some high flying Briad-wings (about 45) way up in the sky. Later in the afternoon we went for a leisurely walk at the National Arboretum and found a truely amazing kettle of anywhere from 180 - 300 Broadwings. I conservatively counted them in groups of about an inch (10 birds) and came up with 180, but realized that many parts of the swirling mass had even more birds.
I also notices there were small groups of gulls flying at similar dizzying heights - anyone have a guess that they could be? Looked like Laughers, but way too high to ID.
I can't wait to hear what our area Hawk Watches have to report later today!
