Subject: [MDBirding] Wheaton Regional Park & Brookside Gardens today

HI all --

Quite a few of us out at Wheaton Regional today, not as active as we had hoped (no major fall-out nor new species for the autumn for us). Fair activity early with diurnal migrants and some raptors. Obvious decline of catbirds and robins in WRP but this was made up for by hordes of them in Brookside Gardens (BG) proper, which we visited from 10:15 to 10:45. We missed Dave Gersten's Wilson's and Purple Finch, alas. Many jays passing overhead, and several accipiters to enliven the morning (and enrage the resident Red-shoulders). We had 10 species of warbler. After WRP got breezy, we found the more sheltered BG still active and especially good for fruit-eaters, including several Swainson's Thrushes and more Red-eyes than we saw in WRP.
