Jay Sheppard just called me (10:30 am) to say there is an AMERICAN BITTERN standing on the sandbar in the Little Patuxent River at its intersectio with the outlet channel from Oxbow Lake. It is quite an unusual sighting.
The sandbar in questions cannot be seen from the Bridge, but you must make your way from the bridge area back along the river until you reach the outlet channel. There is a fisherman's trail that leads back to that point, you just have to find it and follow.
