Subject: [MDBirding] Irvine , TREE/VESPER/11 spar, 11/2

At Irvine Nature Center this morning: the VESPER SPARROW was located about halfway down the central tree-line (left) as viewed from gazebo, near where the path connects two fields, vicinity of the gnarly tree where the shrike often hung out 2 years ago. Very good view--scared up and perched for awhile then back down to field. I was especially happy to find this b/c it's the first one I've found here. The AMERICAN TREE SPARROW was at the upper/near end of the left marsh (where I had the Orange-Crowned a few weeks ago). 11 sparrow species total.

Very beautiful, primal type of day--no one around, mainly cloudy with two Harriers prominently flying and swooping, lording over the place as 3 of them did a year ago. Fox sparrows and White-Crowned easy to find. I think I underestimated the number of White-Crowned. Flying flocks of waxwing, including about 20 feeding near the ground, affording great viewing. Enjoyed watching 3 Hermits together, a spunky winter wren (aren't they all?), singing golden-crowned.
