Subject: [MDBirding] Raptor Surprise (4 species) at Lake Frank, Rockville

Hi all,

Took a very chilly morning birding hike around half of Lake Frank. Heard American Crows down in the woods south of the dam, but couldn't tell what they were harassing. Suddenly a Red-shouldered Hawk flew up, then another, and then a Red-tailed Hawk. The crows kept right at it. Luckily I had my scope with me, and was able to see a large brown figure with a white head & tail-Bald Eagle. It flew and landed in tall oak. A few minutes later a Merlin dashed by. Glad to have gotten up early.
