Hi all today Nov 30 ,2012 I went to the Cheaspeake Bay Environmental Center to check on newly arriving waterfowl plus other birds and was not disappointed. Highlights Fox Sparrow, scores of yellow rumped warblers , Brown headed Nuthatch. waterfowl including Hooded Mergansers ,Gadwall, Many mallard with one Mallard x Black duck hybrid ,over 200 Ruddy Ducks, Common Loon ,Bufflehead. Three newly arrived Canvasbacks in Marshy Creek and Lesser Scaup.
But the best bird was by far was the Selasphorus Hummer species Rufous/Allens type that briefly and quickly popped into view and dissappeared just that fast and I never was able to relocate it . I had been watching some Yellow Rumped Warblers and caught movement out of the corner of my eye of a Hummingbird hovering at some late blooming Japanese Honeysuckle then perched out of site behind said vine . I backed up a little in time to see it fly away as I tried to get a photo . I did locate a staff member and reported the sighting noted the importance of it and asked if they could place out a hummer feeder they did agree to that but my gut feeling was that the bird was just moving through the area and is long gone very cool sighting though attached is my ebird list
Happy Birding

While watching some Yellow Rumped Warblers I
saw movement out of the corner of my eye turning my head I caught
sight of a Hummingbird hovering in front of some late blooming Japanese
Honeysuckle Flowers then it darted behind the vine and perched on a
bare twig for a very short time then flew off . total time in sight 3
to 4 seconds and I could not relocated the bird after searching for an
hour . I was not able to get a photo . Bins used 8x42 Nikon action
model. though a quick look i was able to see that the bird had much
orangeish/ rufous brown sides/flanks green Upper body white underneath
some faint spots or streaking on throat with no color reflected on it
.Size appeared compact and short tailed . Also appeared to be a female
with no color on the throat
