Subject: [MDBirding] DC - West Potomac Park to Hain's Point

I birded from Constitution Gardens (frozen) down to Hain's point today. It was a pretty good day for waterfowl, with 12 duck species seen. Highlights include:

West Potomac Park / Tidal Basin:

Gadwall - 2 (west side of Potomac swimming out of marina into DC waters with the Hooded Mergs)
Hooded Merganser - 12
Common Merganser - 21 (Flock flying south relatively high over Potomac)
Ruddy Duck - 1 (tidal basin)
Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 (on ice in tidal basin)
Common Loon - 1 (tidal basin)

Hain's Point

American Black Duck - 1
Ring-necked Duck - 1 (with the scaup)
Greater Scaup - 1 (maybe more, stopped trying after I spotted one)
Lesser Scaup - >1,200 off the tip of the point
Bufflehead - 2
Common Goldeneye - 1 female (off of Gravelly pt.)
Ruddy Duck - 5
Horned Grebe - 5
Black-crowned Night-heron - 9
Merlin - 2
