Despite a sprinkling of snow throughout the walk this morning it was an enjoyable day. No rarities to report though the most unusual bird and one I have never seen here on the river was a Coot, rather scarce in Washington County. I also saw three adult Bald Eagles; never more than one before. Woodpeckers and Carolina Wrens seemed in good numbers. Surprising was a mixed flock of Bluebirds and Robins feeding among live sycamores that had fallen on islands in the river at one point. I counted 28 Bluebirds and 12 Robins in the flock. My totals for the three miles:
Canada Goose 176 Mallard 12 Goldeneye 4 Hooded Merganser 2 Common Merganser 78 Great Blue Heron 2 Bald Eagle 3 adults Coot 1 Kingfisher 3 Red-bellied Woodpecker 7 Sapsucker 1 Downy Woodpecker 5 Hairy Woodpecker 2 Flicker 6 Pileated Woodpecker 6 Blue Jay 3 American Crow 3 Raven 1 Carolina Chickadee 14 Titmouse 9 White-breasted Nuthatch 2 Brown Creeper 2 Carolina Wren 16 Winter Wren 2 Golden-crowned Kinglet 4 Bluebird 29 Robin 15 Mockingbird 1 Song Sparrow 6 White-throated Sparrow 6 Junco 2 Cardinal 3 House Finch 1 Goldfinch 6
