Subject: [MDBirding] C&O Canal Winter Count - Miles 104, 105, 106

Despite a sprinkling of snow throughout the walk this morning it was an
enjoyable day. No rarities to report though the most unusual bird and one I
have never seen here on the river was a Coot, rather scarce in Washington
County. I also saw three adult Bald Eagles; never more than one before.
Woodpeckers and Carolina Wrens seemed in good numbers. Surprising was a
mixed flock of Bluebirds and Robins feeding among live sycamores that had
fallen on islands in the river at one point. I counted 28 Bluebirds and 12
Robins in the flock. My totals for the three miles:

Canada Goose 176
Mallard 12
Goldeneye 4
Hooded Merganser 2
Common Merganser 78
Great Blue Heron 2
Bald Eagle 3 adults
